Carvings on the Cliff Face at Jiuli Lake

The carvings on the cliff face at Jiuli Lake are a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The carvings on the cliff face at Jiuli Lake are located in Yuian Village, Zhongshan Town, Xianyou, within the Jiuli Lake Scenic Area, and date from the Song Dynasty to the Republican Era.

Description: There are 41 extant cliff carvings, categorized into scenic site inscriptions, travel poetry, and records of mountain visits. These include inscriptions by Chen Dang, Wu Qian, Chen Xianmo, Zhao Ximeng, Qiu Duo from the Song Dynasty; Shi Tian from the Yuan Dynasty; Lin Youheng and Zheng Ji from the Ming Dynasty; and Yan Jiagan from the Republican Era. The carvings feature a variety of scripts including clerical, regular, running, and cursive scripts, making them important physical materials for the study of calligraphy art from the Song Dynasty to the Republican Era.

Protection boundary: A 20-meter buffer zone extends outward from each individual cliff carving.

In 2018, the carvings on the cliff face at Jiuli Lake were designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People's Government of Fujian Province.
