Li Geng Murals at Ruiyun Shrine

The Li Geng Murals at Ruiyun Shrine are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Li Geng Murals at Ruiyun Shrine are located in Chipi Village, Duwei Town, Xianyou County, dating back to 1917.

Description: In the sixth year of the Republic of China (1917), traditional Chinese painter Li Geng created 29 murals inside Ruiyun Shrine. Among them, 25 murals on the walls of the upper hall depict the life story of Lin Longjiang, the founder of the “Three-in-One Teaching,” known as the “Illustrations of Lin’s Journey” (originally 30, with the lower right five damaged and later restored by others), while the lower hall features four landscape paintings including two of Xianyou’s Four Great Scenic Spots — “Caixi Rock” and “Nine Carp Painting,” as well as “Dragon Chanting” and “Tiger Roaring.” A total of 29 murals were created. The Guanyin Hall and Ruiyun Shrine are affiliated cultural relics.

In 2013, the Li Geng Murals at Ruiyun Shrine were designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: 10 meters beyond the perimeter wall of Ruiyun Shrine.

Duwei Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Xianyou County. Established as Duwei Commune in 1958, changed to a township in 1984, and upgraded to a town in 1987. Located in the western part of the county, 15 kilometers from the county seat, along the upper reaches of the Mulan River. It covers an area of 110 square kilometers with a population of 77,000. The Xianyong Highway runs through the entire town. It administers two neighborhood committees — Dufeng and Tanbian — and 17 village committees: Dongfeng, Lishan, Shengshan, Xiazhou, Zhongfeng, Houpu, Xiangxi, Yangban, Zhongyue, Maoshan, Yunshui, Pingshan, Jianshan, Xiaxi, Puwei, Yunju, and Kuzhu.
