The Site of the Dapucheng Battle is a cultural heritage site protected by Xianyou County and a classic red tourism destination.

The Site of the Dapucheng Battle is located in Zhaili Natural Village, Gaofeng Village, Yuanzhuang Town, Xianyou County, Putian City.

On May 20, 1949, the Kuomintang-armed forces attacked the Cixiao guerrilla zone. Due to the Cixiao guerrilla unit having only about 30 members, with limited weapons and ammunition and being thinly stretched, they dispatched someone to Huian to request assistance from the Huian guerrilla brigade. That day, under the leadership of Zhu Hanying, secretary of the CCP Huian County Committee, the Huian guerrilla unit marched toward Cixiao, joined forces with the Cixiao guerrillas, and after a brief rest at Yilu Qianwu Village, ascended Banling Mountain opposite Dapucheng to prepare for an assault on the Kuomintang-occupied Dapucheng. Around 9 PM that evening, the guerrillas took up concealed positions in the dense woods outside Dapucheng and awaited orders. At 11 PM, the operation commenced—suddenly, within the tranquil, mountain-surrounded Dapucheng, bursts of gunfire and shouts erupted, shaking the earth. Caught off guard by this fierce and sudden attack, the Kuomintang-armed forces scrambled to respond. Seeing the overwhelming momentum of the guerrilla assault, they were forced to fight while retreating, eventually fleeing southward out of Dapucheng through the west gate. In this battle, the guerrillas killed several enemy soldiers, captured more than 10 rifles, 2 machine guns, and 2 pistols, while 4 guerrilla fighters were wounded. The victory at the Dapucheng Battle significantly intimidated the enemy and boosted the morale of the resistance.

The Site of the Dapucheng Battle is a circular earthen fort enclosed by stone walls, covering an area of 2,600 square meters. In September 1980, it was designated as a cultural heritage site of Xianyou County by the Xianyou County People’s Government.

Gaofeng Village: Located 4.9 kilometers west of the seat of Yuanzhuang Town Government, Gaofeng Village has its village committee based in Weilou. The settlement sits on a relatively high mountainside, hence the name Gaofeng (High Peak), and is shaped like a bow.
