Xianyou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

Xianyou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is located at No. 555 Chengnan East Road, Likou Town, Xianyou County, Putian City.

The people of Xianyou have a glorious revolutionary tradition. On this red land, many outstanding sons and daughters of Xianyou shed their blood and fought relentlessly for national independence and the liberation of the people. After the May Fourth Movement, the revolutionary struggle of the people of Xianyou opened a new chapter. In April 1927, the first party organization in Xianyou—the Shanggong Branch of the Communist Party of China—was established; in December of the same year, the Xianyou County Committee of the CPC was formed; and in October 1930, the first armed force in Xianyou—the 108th Regiment of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army—was established. The Xianyou Party organizations and the Red Army guerrilla forces relied closely on the people, persevered tenaciously, and preserved and developed revolutionary strength. In 1943, when the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC relocated to central Fujian, it stayed in Shanghudi, Gaoyang, and Donghu in Xianyou. The local revolutionary masses resolutely took on the responsibility of protecting the safety of the Provincial Committee, ensuring supplies, and opening up communication lines, contributing to the successful relocation of the Provincial Committee. After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Xianyou Party organizations continued to lead the people in their struggle, continuously dismantling the grassroots regime of the Kuomintang, and made positive contributions to the liberation of the entire Xianyou region.

To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs and educate future generations, the Xianyou County Committee of the CPC and the People’s Government of Xianyou County built the Xianyou Revolutionary Martyrs Monument on Huxiao Mountain in 1984, facing south. In 1999, the monument site underwent large-scale expansion and renovation, and after the expansion, the cemetery covered an area of 39.5 mu. In 2003, a revolutionary memorial hall was also constructed within the site. The site now also features a red torch, fountains, rockeries, and planted trees and flowers such as pines, cypresses, and bougainvillea. The entire cemetery is solemn and dignified with lush greenery, serving as a sacred place for the public to receive revolutionary tradition education and for leisurely visits.

The eight large characters “Xianyou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery” on the south gate of the cemetery were personally inscribed by General Yang Chengwu, former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Entering the gate leads to the memorial square, where you will see a fountain and stone steps leading to the Revolutionary Martyrs Monument. To the left of the square is the Xianyou Revolutionary Memorial Hall, and to the right is the office building of the cemetery management office.

The Xianyou Revolutionary Memorial Hall has a construction area of 288.8 square meters. The hall displays over 300 images reflecting the revolutionary struggles of the people of Xianyou during the New Democratic Revolution period, as well as some revolutionary relics. Through a combination of text and images, it vividly presents the glorious journey of the people of Xianyou under the leadership of the Minzhong regional organization of the CPC, who fearlessly sacrificed themselves, persevered, and struggled tenaciously for national independence and the liberation of the people. The memorial hall is open to the public year-round.

Passing the fountain pool and ascending the stone steps, visitors will see the towering Revolutionary Martyrs Monument rising into the sky. Stone railings are installed along both sides of the steps and around the monument. The monument is constructed from finely cut granite blocks, standing 34 meters tall with a circumference of 8 meters. The top of the monument features a mock wooden structure with a double-eave hip-and-gable roof. The body of the monument is inscribed with the words “Revolutionary Martyrs Monument,” while the front of the base is engraved with an inscription recounting the heroic deeds of the revolutionary martyrs of Xianyou.

In April 1995, Xianyou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery was designated as one of the first batch of patriotic education bases in Fujian Province by the Fujian Provincial Department of Civil Affairs. In September 2009, it was named a Fujian Provincial Party History Education Base by the Party History Research Office of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee.

It covers an area of 42.59 square kilometers, with a population of over 50,000, and administers 16 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood committee. Chengnan New District, where the town government of Likou Town is located, has undergone several years of development and construction, with 400 million yuan invested, 260,000 square meters of completed construction area, 100,000 square meters under construction, and a resident population of over 5,000.
