The Exhibition Room of Martyr Wang Yujie is a classic red tourism site and a patriotic education base.

The Exhibition Room of Martyr Wang Yujie is located within Yuji Primary School in Zize Village, Bangtou Town, Xianyou County, Putian City.

Wang Yujie (March 1901 – June 1937) was born in March 1901 in Qianxi Natural Village, Zize Village, Bangtou Town, Xianyou. In the autumn of 1924, he graduated from the Beijing Higher Police School. In 1925, he became a police officer in Jiangle County but resigned in anger and returned to his hometown after less than two months due to witnessing the corrupt rule of the Beiyang warlords. In November 1927, under the guidance of Chen Guozhu, Secretary of the Putian Special District Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, he embarked on the revolutionary path, joined the Communist Party of China, and carried out revolutionary activities in his hometown.

In April 1928, Wang Yujie led the peasants of the eastern township in his hometown in a struggle against oppressive taxes, and then moved to Putian to join the guerrilla forces. In 1928, he became the Secretary of the Putian County Committee of the Communist Party of China. In November 1930, he served as a member of the Putian Special Committee of the Communist Party of China and Political Commissar of the 2nd Detachment, later succeeding as the Committee Secretary. In February 1931, under the guidance of the Provincial Committee, the Putian County Committee of the Communist Party of China was re-established. In September of the following year, the Putian County Committee was renamed the Putian Central County Committee, with Wang Yujie serving as Secretary. He always remained committed to the revolutionary cause of his hometown, continuing to oversee work in Xianyou, frequently returning to his native place to have in-depth discussions with fellow revolutionaries and to guide the revolutionary efforts there.

In October 1934, after the Long March of the Central Red Army, Wang Yujie led the guerrilla forces in continuing their activities despite losing contact with the higher Party organization. In May 1935, the Putian Central County Committee of the Communist Party of China established contact with the Fuqing Central County Committee, leading to the formation of the Central Fujian Special Committee of the Communist Party of China. Wang Yujie was appointed its Secretary, leading the Party organizations and guerrilla forces in Central Fujian to independently wage a grueling three-year guerrilla war. He successively established the Putian-Xianyou border, Fuqing-Yongtai border, and Putian-Yongtai border guerrilla bases, successfully creating the Central Fujian Guerrilla Area.

On February 16, 1937, Wang Yujie convened a meeting of the Central Fujian Special Committee of the Communist Party of China in Hongdu Village, Putian, to discuss activities for resisting Japan and saving the nation. Unfortunately, he was betrayed by a traitor. Five committee members were arrested and imprisoned. On June 23 of the same year, he was executed heroically outside the West Gate of Fuzhou.

Wang Yujie sacrificed his life, but the people of Central Fujian will never forget this resolute revolutionary fighter who risked everything for the revolution, nor will they forget his outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause in Central Fujian. The Xianyou County Committee and the People’s Government of Xianyou County built Yuji Primary School in his hometown so that the people of Xianyou would forever remember him.

Yuji Primary School was originally known as Qianxi Primary School in Xianyou County, established in 1927. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it was renamed successively as “Qianxi Central Primary School” and “Zize Primary School.” On May 4, 1988, it was renamed again as “Yuji Primary School.” To provide students with patriotic and revolutionary tradition education and pass on the spirit of the martyrs through generations, in 1995, the school set up the “Exhibition Room of Martyr Wang Yujie” covering an area of 96 square meters on the fourth floor of the comprehensive building. Through vivid and concrete images, it provides a detailed introduction to Wang Yujie’s revolutionary life. It also displays inscriptions by veteran revolutionaries and related leaders to promote the revolutionary spirit of the martyr, inspire future generations, and encourage striving and progress.

The Exhibition Room of Martyr Wang Yujie was designated as a Putian Municipal Patriotic Education Base by the Putian Municipal Committee and the People’s Government of Putian in July 2000, and as a Putian Municipal Party History Education Base by the Putian Municipal Party History Research Office in June 2011.

Wang Yujie (1900–1937), alias Wu Mei, was a native of Zize Village, Bangtou Town, Xianyou County, Fujian Province. He studied at Tsinghua University in Beijing before transferring to and graduating from the Beijing Higher Police School. He joined the Communist Party of China in November 1927. He served successively as the Organization Minister of the Xianyou County Committee of the Communist Party of China, Secretary of the Putian County Committee, and Secretary of the Zhangzhou Municipal Committee. Starting in November 1930, he served as a member and then Secretary of the Putian (Central Fujian) Special Committee of the Communist Party of China, concurrently as Political Commissar of the 2nd Detachment of the Fujian Workers' and Peasants' Red Army Guerrillas, and established the Wai坑 Soviet regime in Putian.
