Former Site of the Activity Base of the CPC Xiuying County Committee

The former site of the activity base of the CPC Xiuying County Committee is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the activity base of the CPC Xiuying County Committee is located at No. 239 Chengnei Street, Chengnei Community, Licheng Subdistrict, Xiuying County, Putian City.

In late October 1927, Chen Guozhu was ordered to return to Putian to reorganize and develop the Party’s organization. In November of the same year, Chen Guozhu went to Xiuying, where he reconnected with Huang Jingfang, who had returned from Dongjiang after participating in the Nanchang Uprising. Together, they discussed plans to reorganize and develop the Party organizations in Putian and Xiuying. Given the prevailing struggle conditions at the time, the two decided to swap their work locations, with Huang Jingfang going to Putian to carry out Party-building activities. As a result, Chen Guozhu, through Huang Jingfang’s introduction, took up a teaching position at Xiuying County Middle School. Using teaching as a cover, he rallied progressive students primarily from the county middle school, along with those from other urban middle schools, and organized activities through school groups such as the Anti-Japanese Association, Mutual Aid Society, Zhilan Club, and Reading Society. He developed the Party organization in Xiuying and established the CPC Xiuying County Committee by the end of that year. Chen Guozhu continued to teach and carry out activities at the county middle school until May 1928, when he left Xiuying after being wanted by the local Kuomintang authorities for leading the public in resisting taxes.

The county middle school, which served as the former site of the CPC Xiuying County Committee activity base, was originally a single-story teaching building. It later merged with the Provincial Xiuying High School and the Private Jinshi Middle School to form Xiuying No. 1 Middle School.

Licheng Subdistrict: Located in the central area of Xiuying County, Licheng Subdistrict borders the provincial-level Dafeishan Forest Park to the north and the Sanjiao Provincial Highway to the south. It is a historic, culturally rich, picturesque, and beautifully scenic ancient town, as well as the economic, political, cultural, and transportation hub of Xiuying County. Approved by the provincial government, the Licheng area was readjusted, forming the new Licheng Subdistrict Office from the former Licheng Town, former Chengdong Town, and parts of villages (residential committees) from Daji Town. The jurisdiction covers an area of 38 square kilometers, comprising 10 community residential committees and 7 village committees, with a total population of 78,000.
