The Former Site of the Zhixi Triangle City Self-Defense Force is located in Edou Natural Village, Zhongshan Village, Zhongshan Town, Xianyou County, Putian City.

After successfully persuading Xie Yuwei, the platoon leader of the Nationalist Party’s self-defense force stationed at Triangle City in Lihu, to defect, the Lihu Guerrilla Unit, under the command of Zhang Yuanzi and Xie Yugou, surrounded the self-defense force's base on the evening of May 9, 1949. While staging a feint attack with gunfire and calling out to persuade the defenders to surrender their weapons, Xie Yuwei, following the prearranged plan, slipped out through the back door with a few trusted men and made contact with the guerrillas using a secret signal. The guerrillas then opened fire, and Xie Yuwei pretended to be captured, shouting to the defenders upstairs as if he were being held hostage. Taking advantage of the confusion, Xie Yugou launched a political offensive, assuring that those who laid down their arms would be guaranteed personal safety, with travel expenses provided for those wishing to return home, while warning that any who continued to resist would result in Xie Yuwei, their platoon leader, being executed first, followed by the burning of the entire building. With no leadership and under this cleverly executed strategy, more than 20 self-defense members came downstairs to surrender. The guerrillas then gathered them for a talk, explaining the policies of the Chinese Communist Party and the current domestic situation, urging them to abandon their misguided ways. Each was given 100 jin of grain as living expenses, while the former platoon leader Xie Yuwei, for his meritorious defection, was rewarded with 1,200 jin of grain.

The battle to outwit and capture the Triangle City Self-Defense Force ended in a major victory, with over 20 rifles, one automatic rifle, one Czech-style light machine gun, 60 handguns, and nearly 1,000 bullets seized. The success at Triangle City boosted the guerrillas’ momentum and strength. Alongside the victory of the Guyi Guerrilla Unit, it dealt a heavy blow to the Nationalist local forces in the Xingtai region. From then on, the Nationalist regimes in the three townships of Guyi (Youyang), Lihu (Zhongshan), and Xunyang (Shicang) existed in name only, quickly collapsing, and the Xingtai Guerrilla Base was essentially established.
