The Minzhong Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a Fujian Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The Fujian Provincial Minzhong Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is situated in the bustling center of Putian’s urban area and is currently a national key martyrs' memorial architecture protection unit. The site spans 63,712 square meters. It was initially built in December 1957, originating as the "Putian County Revolutionary Monument." In 1983, after Putian became a city, it was taken over by the municipal government and renamed the "Putian City Martyrs' Cemetery." In August 2000, with approval from the municipal government, it was renamed again as the "Minzhong Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery," and now has a staff of 10. In 1990, it was listed as a Fujian Provincial Martyrs' Memorial Architecture and Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. In April 2001, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of National Key Martyrs' Memorial Architecture Protection Units by the State Council. In April 1995, it was recognized as one of the first batch of Fujian Provincial Patriotic Education Bases.

In recent years, guided by the principle of “people-oriented service and continuous improvement,” we have strived to build our cemetery into an influential base for revolutionary tradition education. In addition to the original 1,600-square-meter Revolutionary Heroes’ Monument, which was constructed entirely in the style of the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square, a new 650-square-meter Martyrs’ Monument Pavilion with a 40-meter-long corridor has been added. The monument wall is inscribed with the names of 653 revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives in various historical periods of our city, as well as two families known for their loyalty and sacrifice. A Minzhong Revolutionary History Memorial Hall, tasked with important patriotic education functions, has also been built. It houses nine exhibition halls (six of which are historical exhibition rooms that are already open to the public) and a multimedia screening room. The overall infrastructure and landscaping within the cemetery have been continuously improved, transforming the entire site into a garden-style martyrs' cemetery that combines revolutionary tradition education with leisure and recreation.

Minzhong boasts a glorious revolutionary history. Since the Opium Wars, the people of Minzhong have continuously and resolutely resisted foreign aggression and feudal rule. After the founding of the Communist Party of China, the local party organization in Putian was established on February 26, 1926, at the "Zheli Bell Tower" in Putian. From then on, Putian became the birthplace of the Minzhong guerrilla zone and the center of activities for the Minzhong guerrilla forces. In December 1988, Chairman Yang Shangkun approved the recognition of the Minzhong Guerrilla Zone as one of the 15 independent guerrilla zones during the three-year Southern Guerrilla War, affirming its status and role in the national revolutionary base areas. Recognizing the outstanding contributions of the Minzhong guerrilla forces in China’s revolutionary history, veteran revolutionaries and central leaders paid close attention to the development of the Minzhong Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery. Deng Zihui, Zhang Dingcheng, Ye Fei, Guo Moruo, and others all personally inscribed words of commemoration for the cemetery, which have become valuable cultural relics and materials for us. We will continue to uphold the scientific development concept and adhere to a people-oriented service philosophy, making greater contributions to promoting patriotism and fostering and cultivating national spirit.

On the north side of the Monument lies the Revolutionary Martyrs’ Monument Pavilion, covering an area of 650 square meters with a 40-meter-long corridor. The walls of the pavilion are inscribed with the names of 652 revolutionary martyrs from Putian who sacrificed their lives in different historical periods. These engravings ensure that future generations remember these heroic sons and daughters of Xinghua who shed blood and laid down their lives for national independence and people’s liberation, honoring their glorious deeds and learning from their noble qualities and revolutionary spirit.

The Minzhong Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery was designated as a Putian Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Putian Municipal People’s Government in April 1986, as a Fujian Provincial Martyrs' Memorial Architecture and Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government in May 1990, as a First Batch Patriotic Education Base by the Fujian Provincial Department of Civil Affairs in April 1995, as a National Key Martyrs' Memorial Architecture Protection Unit by the State Council in April 2001, as a Third Batch Provincial Party History Education Base by the Fujian Provincial Party Committee Party History Research Office in November 2012, and as a Putian Municipal Party History Education Base by the Putian Municipal Party Committee Party History Research Office in June 2011.
