Putian Museum

Covering an area of 23.3 mu, Putian Museum has a construction area of 28,800 square meters and an exhibition space of 13,000 square meters. It houses six thematic exhibitions: "Exhibition of Putian's Historical Culture", "Exhibition of Putian’s Folk Culture", "Exhibition of Putian’s Calligraphy and Painting Art Through the Dynasties", "Exhibition of Putian’s Woodcarving Art", "Exhibition of Mazu Culture and the Maritime Silk Road", and "Exhibition of Fine Cultural Relics in the Collection", as well as five exchange exhibition halls. The museum also includes a composite public cultural leisure library spanning over 800 square meters. It serves as an urban cultural landmark integrating cultural heritage protection, leisure, interaction, and education.

Currently, the museum houses a collection of over 10,000 cultural relics, including ceramics, bronzes, jade artifacts, bamboo and wood carvings, stone tools, calligraphy and paintings, covering a wide range of categories. Among them, there are 1,378 precious relics rated at Level 3 or above. The museum’s collection of over 200 Mazu culture relics, represented by the Ming Dynasty astronomical chart and Qing Dynasty ceremonial food offerings, serves as valuable material for building Putian into a global center of Mazu culture. The collection also includes more than 2,400 pieces of calligraphy and paintings from the 1930s, featuring works by notable figures such as revolutionary artists He Xiangning, warlords Wu Peifu and Xu Shichang, Zheng Xiaoxu — the premier of the puppet state of Manchukuo, Qing loyalist Chen Baochen, as well as masters from the Shanghai landscape painting school like Wu Daqiu and Feng Chaoran, the Beijing school represented by Hu Heng and Wang Mengbai, the Lingnan school’s Gao Jianfu, and renowned artists such as Xu Beihong, Pan Tianshou, Huang Binhong, and Zhang Shanzi. These works hold significant value for the study of modern Chinese painting and calligraphy history.

All exhibitions in this museum are open to the public free of charge.
