The former site of the Yan Shou Liaison Station of the Minzhong Special Committee Headquarters is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The former site of the Yan Shou Liaison Station of the Minzhong Special Committee Headquarters is located at No. 38, Yan Shou Road, Yan Shou Village, Longqiao Subdistrict, Chengxiang District, Putian City.

Yan Shou Village has a long history and culture as well as a glorious revolutionary tradition, enjoying solid popular support. In November 1930, to facilitate communication between mountainous and plain areas, the Pu Region Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party decided to set up a liaison station at the home of Yang Qisong in Yan Shou Village. From then on, Yan Shou Village became an important base for the Minzhong Party organization to carry out revolutionary activities. In June 1945, Yang Qisong was appointed Secretary of the Putian County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, and committee members such as Su Hua, Zhang Zhaohan, Huang Guozhang, and Lin Runan often stayed at his home. In July 1947, after the Minzhong Guerrilla Column failed in its campaign in the Daiyun Mountains, Yang Qisong relocated to the home of Zhang Kun in Xian Village, Xitianwei. In August, he was arrested due to betrayal by a traitor and later buried alive by the Nationalist Security Corps at Dongyan Mountain in Putian County, sacrificing his life at the age of 32. In May 1949, his nephew and member of the Putian County Committee, Yang Wenxi, died a heroic death during a breakout in Qingjiang, Huangshi. County Party Secretary Lin Ruliang was wounded during the breakout, secretly stayed at the Yan Shou Liaison Station for three or four days, and then moved to the mountainous area of Aobing.

With the secure Yan Shou Liaison Station in place, many revolutionary predecessors stayed here for extended periods, carrying out revolutionary activities and supporting the people’s liberation movement until the entire Minzhong region was liberated. In this land of red history—Yan Shou Village—emerged generations of loyal martyrs including Yang Chiping, Yang Qisong, and Yang Wenxi, as well as revolutionary heroes such as Zhang Wurou, Zhang Jindian, and Huang Jin Gui. There were also over 20 veteran underground revolutionaries, couriers, and Red Army soldiers who engaged in clandestine work, such as Zhang Mao, Yang Fenglai, Zeng He, and Yang Jinhuo.

The former site of the Yan Shou Liaison Station of the Minzhong Special Committee Headquarters is a two-story earthen and wood structure covering an area of 70 square meters.

“The martyrs look back with pride, knowing successors will carry the torch.” In April 2000, villagers of Yan Shou established the Exhibition Hall of the Yan Shou Liaison Station of the Minzhong Special Committee Headquarters in the village office building. After the originally single-story earthen and wood office building was rebuilt into a two-story mixed-structure office building in 2007, the exhibition hall was redesigned. The exhibition hall now consists of two display rooms on the first floor of the village office, covering a total area of 40 square meters. The first display room uses photos and text to comprehensively introduce the revolutionary struggle history of the Yan Shou Liaison Station, highlighting the moving tales of the Yang family’s three generations of martyrs. The second display room exhibits over 30 precious relics once used by revolutionary martyrs, using physical objects to recreate the intense scenes of revolutionary struggle and inspire endless remembrance of the martyrs among future generations.

The former site of the Yan Shou Liaison Station of the Minzhong Special Committee Headquarters was designated as a Putian Municipal Patriotic Education Base by the Putian Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the Putian Municipal People’s Government in July 2000; as a Provincial-Level Cultural Relics Protection Unit and Party History Education Base (third batch) by the Party History Research Office of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in November 2012; and as a Putian Municipal Party History Education Base by the Party History Research Office of the Putian Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in June 2010.
