The former site of the Minzhong Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Detachment in Mayuan is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the Minzhong Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Detachment is located in Jichuan Natural Village, Mayuan Village, Chantai Town, Chengxiang District, Putian City.

In October 1933, Zheng Jinzhao, Secretary of the Chantai District Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, carried out work in Chantai, mobilizing peasants to resist rent exploitation, and delved into villages such as Jichuan to spread revolutionary ideas among the peasants, train revolutionary backbone members, and developed activists such as Chen Jinfan and Chen Congzhong in Jichuan, laying the foundation for establishing the Minzhong guerrilla zone. In October 1934, Zheng Jinzhao and Chen Jianxin, members of the Putian Central County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, were ordered to develop a new base in Chantai. They quickly established a solid activity stronghold in Jichuan, which already had a certain mass base. Jichuan became one of the three main base villages of the Putian-Xianyou border guerrilla base during the three-year guerrilla warfare period in Minzhong, serving as the main headquarters for the Minzhong Special Committee and the Minzhong Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Detachment, with over 40% of the village's population participating in the revolution. In late October 1935, the Minzhong Special Committee held a military meeting in Jichuan, gathering guerrilla forces scattered across Putian and Xianyou and reorganizing them in Jichuan into the 2nd Detachment of the Minzhong Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Detachment. Zheng Jinzhao was appointed detachment commander, and Pan Tao as political commissar. The reorganized 2nd Detachment, relying on the Chantai base, carried out flexible guerrilla operations behind enemy lines, striking against the arrogance of local tyrants and reactionary forces. In early 1936, the Fu-Yong border guerrilla base centered around Luohali suffered a large-scale “encirclement and suppression” by the Kuomintang army. By the end of April, the 1st Detachment of the Minzhong Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Detachment was forced to withdraw from Luohali and moved to the mountainous areas along the Putian-Yongtai border to continue the struggle. In late May of the same year, the Minzhong Special Committee held a ceremony in Jichuan to merge the 1st Detachment into the 2nd Detachment. Wu Debiao was appointed detachment commander, Liu Tujun as political commissar (also holding his previous post), Lei Guangxi and Wang Tiecheng as deputy detachment commanders, while Yang Caiheng remained as chief of staff. The merged 2nd Detachment saw enhanced combat effectiveness and adopted a strategy of avoiding the enemy’s main forces and striking at their weak points. They launched surprise attacks on the hinterland under Kuomintang control, achieving successive victories in battles such as the Changling arms seizure and the raid on the Kuomintang’s Third District Office in Huangshi Town. In late July of the same year, Kuomintang troops launched a fierce “encirclement and suppression” of the Putian-Xianyou border guerrilla base. The Minzhong Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Detachment decided to withdraw from base villages such as Jichuan and relocated to concealed areas like Baisha and Zhuangbian in the Guangye District to establish new guerrilla bases.

The former site of the Minzhong Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Detachment is known as Niubikong. It borders Youyang Town, Xianyou County to the north, connects with Jinshan Village and Dangcheng Village, Chantai Town to the south, adjoins Jinshan Village to the east, and neighbors Zhongshan Town, Xianyou County to the west, covering an area of about 1,000 square meters. The Putian Municipal Party Committee History Research Office erected a memorial stele for its protection in December 2011.

Mayuan Village: Mayuan Village is located in the northern part of Chantai Town, covering an area of 8 square kilometers. It currently has 268 mu of arable land and more than 12,600 mu of mountainous land, with a total population of over 1,150 people, comprising more than 245 households. The village is divided into 2 natural villages and 7 villager groups. There is one Party branch with 63 Party members.

The main economic crops include forestry and fruit trees. The primary economic pillars are income from business and work outside the village, as well as labor export earnings. In 2012, the per capita income of villagers reached more than 7,000 yuan.
