Fujian Central Guerrilla Yangbian Revolutionary Exhibition Hall

The Fujian Central Guerrilla Yangbian Revolutionary Exhibition Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The Fujian Central Guerrilla Yangbian Revolutionary Exhibition Hall is located on the first floor of the office building of the village committee in Yangbian Village, Chantai Town, Chengxiang District, Putian City.

In Yangbian Village, Chantai, there is a Yushi Rock, which features high mountains, treacherous roads, dense forests, and concealed terrain. In 1928, the Putian Party organization conducted underground revolutionary activities in the Jade Emperor Hall on the mountain. In 1932, Putian experienced a serious spring famine. The Putian County Committee of the Communist Party of China instructed Zheng Jinzhao to go deep into his hometown of Chantai to mobilize and educate the masses, arranging for grassroots party branches and peasant associations to lead the people in demanding relief grain from the government during the spring famine. The villagers of Yangbian actively participated, and the Kuomintang authorities were forced to partially meet the farmers’ demands. As the revolutionary struggle evolved, local peasant movements gradually developed into armed struggle. In 1934, the Putian County Committee of the Communist Party of China held a military meeting in Jichuan to discuss the struggle to establish a base area in Chantai, laying a solid foundation for the Fujian Central Guerrilla to establish a base in the region. In December of the same year, Pan Tao and Zheng Jinzhao led the coastal guerrillas to join forces with the Chantai guerrillas. Disguised, they attacked the Nationalist town office militia garrison stationed at Fengyetang, seizing over 20 rifles and firing the first shots of the three-year guerrilla war in central Fujian. In 1935, after the establishment of the Central Fujian Special Committee of the Communist Party of China, You Yutang of Yangbian Village successively served as the secretary of the Houping Village Party branch, the secretary of the Chantai District Party Committee, and a member of the county committee. Thus, Yangbian Village became a secret site and an important revolutionary stronghold for the activities of the Fujian Central Guerrilla detachments. Key leaders of the Central Fujian Special Committee, such as Wang Yujie, Liu Tujun, Qiu Ziguo, Fang Ziming, Su Hua, and Huang Guozhang, often led and organized underground party and guerrilla activities at the Jade Emperor Hall. To support the revolution and the liberation of all China, the people of Yangbian Village consciously devoted themselves to the revolutionary cause, actively backing underground guerrilla activities. A total of 53 passionate youths joined the revolutionary ranks, among whom You Yutang, Wu Huosun, and others were unfortunately captured and bravely sacrificed during the revolution.

To revisit this glorious history, mourn the martyrs, and promote the revolutionary tradition, in May 2003, the Fujian Central Guerrilla Yangbian Revolutionary Exhibition Hall was established within Yangbian Primary School, covering an area of approximately 150 square meters. In 2004, led by the Propaganda Department of Chengxiang District Committee, the exhibition hall was relocated to the village committee building of Yangbian and underwent a complete redesign. The museum houses information on four revolutionary martyrs and 49 underground revolutionaries from Yangbian Village, displaying over 50 revolutionary relics once used by the guerrillas.

In March 2002, the Fujian Central Guerrilla Yangbian Revolutionary Exhibition Hall was designated as a patriotic education base in Chengxiang District by the Chengxiang District Committee and the Chengxiang District People’s Government of the Communist Party of China. In May 2003, it was announced as a youth moral education base in Chengxiang District by the Propaganda Department of the Chengxiang District Committee. In August 2005, it was recognized as a patriotic education base in Putian City by the Putian Municipal Committee and the Putian Municipal People’s Government of the Communist Party of China. In June 2010, it was designated as a Putian municipal Party history education base by the Party History Research Office of the Putian Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Yangbian Village: Located south of the Dongzhen Reservoir, Yangbian Village covers an area of 6.5 square kilometers. It currently has 360 mu of arable land and over 6,525 mu of mountainous land, with a total population of over 1,658 people, comprising more than 360 households. The village is divided into nine natural villages and 14 villager groups. It has one Party branch with 86 Party members.

The main cash crop is loquat. The primary economic pillars are loquat production, labor transfer, business, and income from migrant work. In 2012, the per capita income of villagers reached over 9,800 yuan.
