The Sandu'ao Scenic Area is located within Ningde City, Fujian Province. It is a unique bay with an outlet only 2.6 kilometers wide and an internal sea area spanning 714 square kilometers. The shores of Sandu'ao are bordered by Ningde City, Fu'an City, Xiapu County, and Luoyuan County. To the east lies the Dongchong Peninsula, to the south the Cheng’ao Peninsula, while to the west rises the emerging central city of eastern Fujian, Ningde, and to the north extends the remnants of Mount Taimu. It has long been known as the “Throat of the Five Counties.”

Sandu'ao boasts picturesque scenery, scattered islands, peculiar mountains, and unique rocks, along with a rich tapestry of legendary myths, making it an area abundant in tourism resources. The marine views here are spectacular, and attractions such as Doumu Island, Qingshan Island, Sandu Island, the Qixing White Reef Ancient Ape Man Site, Chicken Cock Mountain, and Writing Brush Stand Mountain are all renowned for their scenery, historical sites, and legends. Among them, the Doumu Scenic Area on Doumu Island is the most captivating and developed pearl of the Sandu'ao tourist zone. Attractions on the island such as the Snail Shell Rock, Golden Rat Leaping off the Cliff, Rhino Gazing at the Moon, Golden Ingot, and Doumu Labyrinth Cave have earned high praise from visitors.

Sandu'ao in the evening is extraordinarily enchanting. Fiddler crabs cautiously emerge from the mud burrows where they’ve hidden all day, quickly multiplying beyond count. On the tidal flats, four or five oyster-catching birds leisurely enjoy their oyster feast, their feathers resplendent and noble. Waves tinged golden by the setting sun tirelessly lap against the rocks, while the sound of “putt-putt” engines drifts over the water — those are small sampans delivering fresh water to replenish the supplies of residents in this magnificent floating town. The sun gradually sinks behind the mountain peaks, the golden waves swiftly turn into an elegant light blue, and the wooden houses on the fishing rafts begin to glow with warm yellowish light. Out on the water, the sound of motors persists — those are fishermen returning late, their boat lanterns tracing graceful lines on long-exposure film.
