Mount Zhiti
Mount Zhiti is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national forest park.
Guide Located 50 kilometers northwest of Ningde City and 127 kilometers from Fuzhou, it is the main part of Huotong Mountain. "Zhiti" in Sanskrit means "gathering of blessings." The Buddhist scripture *Avatamsaka Sutra* records: "In the southeast there is a mountain called Zhiti, where the Heavenly Crown Bodhisattva and his retinue of one thousand reside and constantly preach the Dharma," and also says, "A monk who hasn't been to Zhiti has not truly been a monk." There are four scenic areas on the mountain: Zhiti Shengchang (Zhiti Temple), Yingzhou Water Play, Huotong Cave Heaven, and Narayana Cave. Introduction Zhiti Temple was built in 971 AD for King Qian Chu of Wuyue. The temple houses rare treasures such as the iron Buddha of "Thousand Saints Heavenly Crown" and the bronze Buddha of "Gilded Mahavairocana," both bestowed by the Ming emperors Yongle and Wanli, a five-clawed golden dragon purple robe, and the "Northern Canon." Since the Ming Dynasty, this place has been known as the "Celestial Nest and Buddhist Cave." In April 1983, it was approved by the State Council as a nationally key Buddhist monastery. Hukou Township's Juzhou Village at the foot of Mount Zhiti was anciently called "Yingzhou." A 20-kilometer-long stream flows here all the way to Huotong Town. This stream features nine bends and thirty rapids, with scenic spots along the banks such as Horse-Rearing Back to Court, Golden Bell Covering the Earth, Half-Rolled Pearl Curtain, Bride Alighting from Sedan, Dragon Pearl Floating, Sacred Fish Stream Well, Twin Rainbows Drinking from the Cave, and Bees Emerging from the Cave. Boating through the stream involves passing many fast-flowing and turbulent sections, making it quite thrilling—hence it is called "Yingzhou Water Play." Huotong Mountain, originally named Huo Mountain, is said to have been a place where the hermit Huotong lived during the Western Zhou Dynasty. In the sixth year of the Tang Tianbao era (747 AD), it was decreed as "Huotong Cave Heaven." The mountain features attractions such as the Big and Small Tong Peaks, Huoyao Cave, and Star-Picking Platform. Narayana Temple is located in Hubei Township. Originally built in the Tang Dynasty, the temple is a two-story wooden structure without a single tile on the roof. Nearby attractions include Arhat Cave, Ancient Buddha Pagoda, Fox Ape Calling the Moon, Five Birds Climbing Branches, Nine Dragons Coiling, Dharma-Opening Platform, Guanyin Weaving, and Pearl Curtain, forming the "Narayana Cave" scenic area.
