The mother river of Ningde — Hutou Creek is the seventh-largest creek in Fujian Province and the only unpolluted river in the province. With a total length of 56.8 kilometers, it drains a catchment area of 559.91 square kilometers. The main channel covers an area of 8,614 hectares, and the total elevation drop across the basin is 165 meters. The long-term average annual runoff is 2.555 billion cubic meters, with an average flow rate of 81 cubic meters per second. The creek meanders from the mountains to the sea, with clear blue waters, clusters of reeds, wide gravel beaches, and mirror-like surfaces. Verdant mountains stand like paintings on either bank, while wooden boats cross the stream and bamboo rafts drift gently along, presenting a picturesque landscape. Hutou Creek runs through the Zhiti Mountain Forest Park in Ningde. Within the park, the creek stretches 19.4 kilometers in length and ranges between 80 to 160 meters in width.
