It is a major infrastructure project in Fujian Province and the sixth cascade hydropower station on the main stream of the Huotong Stream, featuring an incomplete annual regulation reservoir. The Hongkou Hydropower Station will become a valuable peak-shaving power plant for the Fujian power grid. The total investment for the project is 1.19 billion yuan, and the main construction is scheduled to be completed in December 2007. The hydropower complex mainly consists of a river dam, water diversion structures, a power plant, and a switching station. The dam is located on the main stream of the Huotong Stream, 1.3 km downstream from Hongkou Township, Jiaocheng District, Ningde City. It is a concrete roller-compacted gravity dam, standing 130 meters high — currently the tallest dam in East China. The dam is 206 meters long and is divided into 13 sections. The water diversion system includes an intake, a water diversion tunnel, a steel manifold, and high-pressure steel branch pipes. The power station will have two generating units with a combined installed capacity of 200,000 kilowatts and an annual output of 452 million kilowatt-hours. Once completed, the Hongkou Hydropower Station will create a water surface area of 8.92 square kilometers and a total reservoir capacity of 449.7 million cubic meters. The surrounding reservoir area is surrounded by verdant mountains, dotted with islands scattered gracefully across the lake. The water is gentle and shimmering, creating picturesque scenery. Visitors will be able to enjoy the magnificent view of a highland lake.
