Hutou Ancient Town

Hutou Ancient Town is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

With a history of thousands of years, Hutou Ancient Town was originally named Huoshan. It got its current name because during the Western Zhou Dynasty, the hermit Huotong lived here. The town boasts profound cultural heritage and a beautiful environment. The Hutou Stream beside the town flows gently all day long. To this day, the town preserves traditional Ming and Qing dynasty wooden shops such as the Sugar Jar Grocery Store and woodcarving workshops. The ancient houses exude a rustic charm, and people live in peace and tranquility.

The folk arts of Hutou Lion Dance, Hutou Iron Branch Performance, and the "February 2nd" Lantern Festival have been listed as part of the first and second batches of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage. Among them, the Hutou Lion Dance has been promoted by Fujian Province as part of the folk performing arts tour routes under its Ten Folk Art Tourism Programs.

Within Hutou Town lies the Zhiti Mountain Forest Park, a national-level forest park. Additionally, Hutou Ancient Town has been included in the third batch of Four-Star Rural Tourism Operation Units evaluated and announced by the Provincial Tourism Bureau. It has also been honored as one of “China’s Top Ten Most Influential Tourist Towns” and “China’s Top Ten Most Influential Traveler-Rated Towns” by China Famous Towns Network.

Hutou Village: Named after Hutou Mountain. Established as a brigade in 1958, and changed to a village committee in 1984. The village office is located in the northwest of the city, 47 kilometers from the city center, on the northwest side of the world’s foremost mountain. It sits at an elevation of 30 meters. Originally comprising 10 natural villages including Hutou, Banshou, Kengli, Huangtuling, Zushitang, and Luotoushan, it now governs 1 village, four districts, 41 villager groups, 1,778 households, and 8,856 residents. The cultivated land area is 3,784.6 mu, and forest land covers 12,368 mu. The main agricultural activities involve tea and rice cultivation, with oranges being the primary fruit crop.
