The Ancient Shibi Ridge Official Road

The Ancient Shibi Ridge Official Road is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Ancient Shibi Ridge Official Road is located on Shibi Ridge in Shihou Township, Jiaocheng District, Ningde City, dating from the Song Dynasty to the Republican era.

Description: This ancient road was once a key transportation route in Ningde leading to the western region as well as to Gutian, Pingnan, and even northern Fujian. It was established no later than the Southern Song Dynasty and earned its name due to the steep, cliff-like mountains it traverses. In the 45th year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1706), a local man named Wang Tianxing employed the method of fire and water attack, “thus completing the passable road.” The surviving section of the ancient road starts west of Gaogan Village in Jinhuan Township, passes through Lingwei Village in Shihou Township, crosses Shibi Ridge, goes by Lingdian Village, and ends at Dalin Village in Shihou Township, spanning a total length of 2.5 kilometers. It is built with layered stone steps, approximately 1 meter in width, with a vertical drop of over 500 meters. Along the road are numerous cultural relics, including the surviving cliff inscription “High Mountains and Long Waters,” road construction steles, ruins of ancient pavilions, and trench remnants.

Protection area: An additional 20 meters outward from all sides of the ancient official road.

In 2018, the Ancient Shibi Ridge Official Road was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Fujian Province.

Shihou Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Ningde City. Established as the Shihou Commune in 1958 and reorganized as a township in 1984. Located in the central part of the city, it is 11 kilometers from the municipal government. Covering an area of 61.1 square kilometers with a population of 13,000, it is traversed by the Xia (Tang)–Tian (Hu) section of the provincial highway. The township administers 14 village committees: Shicuo, Qinhou, Guangrong, Dangyang, Dalin, Xiaolin, Dingyang, Shangzhuyang, Xiaojie, Xiazhuyang, Damuqian, Sanwang, Linxiayang, and Chenban.
