Huoshan Former Sites of the Central Red Army’s Eastern Army
The Huoshan Former Sites of the Central Red Army’s Eastern Army are a Fujian Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism destination.
The Huoshan Former Sites of the Central Red Army’s Eastern Army are located in Huoshan Village, Fukou Town, Sha County, dating back to 1933–1934.
Description: Huoshan Village is a revolutionary base village, known as the “Central Red Army Village.” From 1933 to 1934, Peng Dehuai, Yang Shangkun, and others led the Central Red Army’s Eastern Army to be stationed in Huoshan Village, with the troop number reaching up to over 10,000 at its peak. The former sites consist of the Eastern Army Headquarters, communication station, Red Army hospital, mint, Red Army Pavilion, Red Army Well, and Red Army Cemetery. They are significant revolutionary relics from the period of the Agrarian Revolutionary War in Sha County and even the Sanming region. The headquarters site was originally the Xin’an Temple, a shrine dedicated to the Goddess Mazu. The building faces south and consists of a front courtyard, front hall, central courtyard with side wings, and the main hall. The side wings on either side of the courtyard were once the residence of key leaders of the Eastern Army’s Third Corps, including Peng Dehuai. Communication Station A was located at Dacuoping in Huoshan Village, originally the ancestral hall of the Chen family, built in the late Qing Dynasty, and faces southwest. Communication Station B is located to the right of Communication Station A at Dacuoping, originally a private residence of the Chen family, also built in the late Qing Dynasty, and faces southwest. The Red Army Hospital was located in Xiatuku, Huoshan Village. In 1934, when Peng Dehuai led the Third Corps of the Eastern Army to be stationed in Huoshan Village, wounded soldiers were treated here. During the treatment, three Red Army soldiers unfortunately passed away and were buried in two locations in Huoshan Village: Goujiaoli and Hongshujia (now known as the Houshan Red Army Cemetery and Fengshujia Red Army Cemetery). The Huoshan Red Army Pavilion is located on a small round hill locally known as Baimadun, serving as the main sentry post for the Red Army. The mint was located in Xiaweicuo, Huoshan Village, where the Red Army printed Red Army currency for trade at that time. Red Army Well No. 1 is located at the end of the village near the residential area and was originally a self-dug well for villagers’ use. It was used by the Eastern Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army when they were stationed in Huoshan Village in 1934. Red Army Well No. 2 is also located at the end of the village. In 1934, due to a large number of troops and insufficient water sources, the Red Army dug this well for water.
In 2018, the Huoshan Former Sites of the Central Red Army’s Eastern Army were announced by the People’s Government of Fujian Province as part of the ninth batch of provincial cultural relics protection units.
