The Central Red Army Eastern Army Former Sites in Huyuan are located in Zhentou Village and Chengqian Village, Huyuan Township, Sha County, dating back to 1933–1934.

Description: The sites consist of Shuangfeng Hall, Xiuweng Hall, Yanyi Hall, Ruiqing Hall in Zhentou Village, and the Zhang Ancestral Hall in Chengqian Village. In August 1933, Commander Peng Dehuai and Political Commissar Teng Daiyuan led the Central Red Army’s Eastern Army to attack Sha County, establishing 13 district and township Soviet governments. In January 1934, the Eastern Army attacked Sha County again and captured it on January 25, establishing the Sha County Soviet Government, making Sha County a Central Soviet County. On February 25, after the Red Army withdrew from Sha County, the 19th Regiment of the Red Seventh Army of the Eastern Army carried out guerrilla operations in the northwestern part of Fujian. On May 29, the 19th Regiment of the Red Seventh Army stationed in Huyuan Township engaged in an encounter battle with the 239th Brigade of the 80th Division of the Nationalist Army on the Nanyangqi highland in Huyuan Township and achieved victory. The Red Army's activities covered the entire Huyuan Township, with multiple units such as the 19th Regiment of the Red Seventh Army, the Ninth Red Army, the Third Red Army, and the Fifth District Squadron stationed there. Forty-eight Red Army propaganda slogans remain preserved on the bamboo-reinforced mud walls of ancient houses such as Shuangfeng Hall, Xiuweng Hall, Yanyi Hall, Ruiqing Hall in Zhentou Village, and the Zhang Ancestral Hall in Chengqian Village. These slogans propagated revolutionary truths and called on workers and peasants to join the revolution, bearing signatures such as “Third Red Army.” Among them, slogans like “Overthrow the Feudal Exploitation System,” “The Communist Party is the Party of the Proletariat,” and “Welcome the Liberation Army to Eliminate Bandits” vividly reflect the Red Army’s priorities and activities during various periods, serving as strong evidence of their battles in Huyuan.

In 2018, the Central Red Army Eastern Army Former Sites in Huyuan were designated as part of the ninth batch of Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government.
