The Site of the Former Headquarters of the Red Army’s Eastern Army is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Site of the Former Headquarters of the Red Army’s Eastern Army – Xijiao Heng’an is located in Xijiao Village, Fenggang Subdistrict, Sha County, about 500 meters east of the village office.

On January 10, 1934, Peng Dehuai issued the order to attack Sha County from his headquarters at Heshan in Fuku. On the 11th, the 4th Red Army Division set out from Xiamao, passing through Shuitou, Luoxi, and Jiaokeng Ridge, and entered the area of Xiajie and Huaxi northeast of the county town to await orders; the 5th Red Army Division set out from Fuku, passed through Jimazhai, and advanced to the area near Panxi north of the county town to assemble and prepare siege equipment, awaiting orders to attack; the main force of the 6th Red Army Division assembled in Fuku and dispatched one company each to strategic points along the road to Sha County—including Jimazhai, Shiwuliting, and Shangbanyi—to maintain communication with the county town; the Corps Headquarters moved with the 5th Division. To facilitate command, on the 11th the Corps Headquarters relocated to Xijiao Heng’an, about 2 kilometers from the county town of Sha County, and made preparations to capture the town.

The Site of the Former Headquarters of the Red Army’s Eastern Army – Xijiao Heng’an was originally built during the Qing Dynasty, consisting of an open front courtyard, the main hall, and side wing rooms. It was demolished in 1958. The existing structure was rebuilt on the original site in 1982 with funds raised by local residents, expanded in 1986, and faces east with a westward orientation. It covers an area of approximately 300 square meters, with the main hall spanning three bays and side rooms on both sides. The building features a post-and-lintel wooden frame structure and a flush-gable roof. It now serves as the activity center for elderly residents of Xijiao Village.
