Shaowu Central Soviet Area Memorial Hall

The Shaowu Central Soviet Area Memorial Hall is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a classic red tourism destination.

During the Second Revolutionary Civil War period, Shaowu served as an important link between the Central Soviet Area and the Northern Fujian Soviet Area. Starting from the establishment of the Shaowu Party and Youth League group in September 1930, in June 1931, the Central Red Army first captured Shaowu City and repeatedly stationed there to develop the Soviet area. They supported the local Party organization in establishing a Soviet regime, successively forming the Shaowu Special District Soviet Government, the Shaoguang County Revolutionary Committee, and the Shaowu County Soviet Government. To the west of Shaowu lies the Central Revolutionary Base Area of southern Jiangxi and western Fujian, while to the east is the Northern Fujian Soviet Area. For the Central Soviet Area to expand eastward and connect with the Northern Fujian Soviet Area, it was essential to secure Shaowu and establish a strategic corridor. As a result, between 1931 and 1932, the First Front Red Army launched three attacks on and occupied Shaowu. In October 1932, the 22nd Red Army directly under the First Front Red Army captured Shaowu City. The Central Red Army and the Northern Fujian Red Army joined forces in Shaowu, linking the Central Soviet Area with the Northern Fujian Soviet Area and creating crucial conditions for the establishment of the Central Soviet Area’s Min-Gan Provincial Committee. On April 26, 1933, the 40th regular session of the Central People's Committee of the Chinese Soviet Republic officially established the Min-Gan Province and decided to place Shaowu, Guangze, and the Northern Fujian Soviet Area under its jurisdiction. To restore historical truth, the Shaowu Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government designated the Municipal Party History Office and the Municipal Old Revolutionary Base Areas Office as the responsible entities to apply for recognition of Shaowu as a former Central Soviet Area county. In May 2009, the Provincial Party History Office and the Provincial Old Revolutionary Base Areas Office jointly forwarded the approval from the Central Party History Research Office dated April 4, 2009, which officially recognized Shaowu as a former Central Soviet Area county. To showcase the glorious history of the Shaowu Central Soviet Area and promote the city’s development and environment, the Shaowu Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided to establish the “Shaowu Central Soviet Area Memorial Hall” as a base for revolutionary education, with the Municipal Party History Office and the Municipal Old Revolutionary Base Areas Office as the implementing bodies. The Shaowu Central Soviet Area Memorial Hall includes: the Shaowu Central Soviet Area Exhibition Hall, the Shaowu Party History Figures Exhibition Hall, the Shaowu People’s Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall, a comprehensive audio-visual simulation battlefield of the city assault, and the Shaowu Scientific Development History Exhibition Hall. The completion and opening of the memorial hall play a significant role in inheriting and promoting revolutionary traditions and advancing the construction of our city as a strong hub in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.
