Jinkeng Red Tourism Scenic Area

Jinkeng Red Tourism Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Jinkeng is situated in the western section of the Wuyi Mountains and retains a relatively pristine ecological environment, with fresh, unpolluted air. Ecological red tourism and ancient dwelling tourism are the distinctive features of Jinkeng. The Jinkeng Red Tourism Scenic Area fully preserves the battle relics of the Central Red Army during its operations in the Min-Gan Soviet Area. The township currently has over a hundred Red Army slogans and 111 Ming and Qing dynasty ancient dwellings, among which the Wenchang Pavilion and Rulinlang are provincial-level cultural heritage protection units. The traditional ancient villages hidden among green hills and clear waters feature secluded winding paths, carved beams, and painted rafters, offering a naturally beautiful historical ambiance that gives visitors the feeling of discovering a hidden gem untouched by time.

Jinkeng Township is located at the junction of two provinces (Fujian and Jiangxi) and three counties, boasting abundant humanistic and geographical tourism resources. In June 1931, the Third Red Army Corps of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army moved from Lichuan, Jiangxi, to Jinkeng to establish a revolutionary base. Peng Dehuai and Teng Daiyuan led troops to carry out activities, establishing district and township Soviet governments, leaving behind many valuable revolutionary sites and relics. To protect and develop the profound historical and red cultural resources of this land, in recent years, Jinkeng Township has invited several authoritative domestic design institutions to jointly formulate master and detailed plans. By adopting a “build-it-and-they-will-help” approach, the township secured policies for former Central Soviet Area counties granted by the central and provincial governments. Leveraging funds for the redevelopment of old homesteads, more than 60 million yuan was raised from various sources to renovate the facades of the main streets, improve supporting infrastructure for the scenic area, restore ancient streets, alleys, and buildings, and refurbish a number of revolutionary sites and relics such as the Wenchang Pavilion, the Dongfang County Government, and the Soviet Government. These efforts have created a uniquely local red classic eco-tourism scenic area, which has rapidly become a revolutionary tradition education base in the Fujian-Jiangxi border region.
