Shuiliandong Cave It is said that this was the dwelling of the Monkey King, who was sent by Guanyin to protect the mandarin ducks. In the past, when Zhang Chao-sheng, a martial arts scholar from Yiyang, was selecting the Eight Scenic Spots of Yiyang Village, he listed the Hundred-Zhang Waterfall outside the cave as one of them — “Mist-Rising Waterfall.” It describes how the waterfall’s waters scatter as if over thousands of miles, misty and dreamlike. Standing beneath the waterfall, you can see a powerful rush of water, creating an awe-inspiring sight that feels as if clear stream water is descending from the heavens. A poem reads: “Amidst endless green, snow-white waves fly; Shocking tides shake the valley like thunder nearby. Gazing up at the thousand-foot waterfall by the pool, one might mistake it for a dragon descending through emerald haze.” Originally, China had four famous Shuiliandong (Water Curtain Caves) known as Huangguoshu, Lianyungang, Yandang Mountain, and Wuyi Mountain. Experts now suggest adding the Hundred-Zhang Shuiliandong Cave and ranking it as the foremost among the nation’s “Five Great Shuiliandong Caves.” The beautiful mythical legends intertwine with the actual landscape, creating a naturally harmonious scene.

Looking down from the waterfall, the clouds roll and drift, resembling a group of fairies in white dresses laughing and playing as they descend from the heavens. The forest around the pool is lush and the scenery serene. On sunny mornings until midday, sunlight paints a rainbow across the water, creating a magnificent view. This waterfall combines the grandeur of Yandang Mountain’s Great Dragon Pool with the delicate beauty of its Little Dragon Pool. When the Hundred-Zhang Waterfall is at full flow, its force is tremendous, forming just a single-tiered waterfall. In the dry season, it splits into three tiers. Less than 300 meters below it lies the Qingdie Waterfall, yet there are six more tiers of cascades in between. Both the Hundred-Zhang and Qingdie Waterfalls are over 100 meters high, with a total drop of more than 300 meters. Only when you reach the Immortal Bridge can you fully take in their grandeur.
