Former Site of the Jianning-Songxi-Zhenghe Soviet Government

The Former Site of the Jianning-Songxi-Zhenghe Soviet Government is a Fujian Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism destination.

The Former Site of the Jianning-Songxi-Zhenghe Soviet Government is a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit, located in Xibiao Village, Dongping Town. Originally the ancestral hall of the Wei family in Xibiao Village, it covers an area of approximately 260 square meters. In mid-August 1934, the 58th Regiment of the 21st Division of the Seventh Red Army Corps, led by Commander Huang Ligui and Political Commissar Chen Yi, advanced into the Jianning (Yong'an)-Songxi-Zhenghe region, directly striking Dongping Town and establishing a vast base area. In early September, a mass meeting of the border area residents of the Jianning-Songxi-Zhenghe region was held in the Wei family ancestral hall in Xibiao Village, where the establishment of the Jianning-Songxi-Zhenghe Revolutionary Committee was announced, with Yang Shunli, a leader of the local peasant movement, elected as chairman. Later that month, a grand Soviet Congress was convened in Fengchi Village, proclaiming the founding of the Jianning-Songxi-Zhenghe Soviet Government. Land reform movements were launched across areas such as Dongping in Zhenghe, Luqiao and Meikou in Songxi, Jiangdi, Long’an and Pucheng’s Shuibei and Haocun in Shuichang, greatly advancing the revolutionary war effort. The Soviet Government governed seven Soviet districts, encompassing over 500 villages and a population of more than 9,000, making it one of the major revolutionary bases in northern Fujian. The site is now listed as a revolutionary history education base of Zhenghe County.

Dongping Town: "Dongping Town is known as the 'Red Capital of Northern Fujian.' It is home to many moving revolutionary stories. Yang Zeshi, the first Communist Party member in Zhenghe County, established the county's first Party organization and the Jianning-Songxi-Zhenghe Soviet Government. Chen Guifang, who struck fear into the hearts of enemies across the Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi border region, followed Zeng Jingbing, rescued New Fourth Army soldiers, and saw thirteen members of his family tragically killed, including his mother who suffered inhumane persecution through three imprisonments. These revolutionary heroes deeply influenced generations of people in the old revolutionary base areas.
