Wangzhe Mountain Scenic Area

Wangzhe Mountain Scenic Area is located in Xijin Village, Shitun Town, about 20 kilometers from the county seat, at an elevation of 758 meters. Legend has it that during the Western Zhou Dynasty, the great immortal fisherwoman Ji attained enlightenment here. She often stood atop the mountain gazing northward toward Tiantai, the ancestral mountain of Zhejiang. One day, a crane came, and she rode it back north, hence the name of the mountain, which is also known today as “Yingjie Mountain.” The Tianfu Temple at the mountaintop was first built in the early Tang Dynasty. It is said that Emperor Taizong of Tang once granted gold to expand it. During the Huang Chao Rebellion in the Qianfu era of the Tang Dynasty, the rebel army’s main camp in Fujian was stationed on this mountain. Remains such as Huang Chao Stockade, Huang Chao Well, and the strategic passes he established—including Shamao Rock and the Watchtower—still exist today. There are over ten scenic spots including Huokeng Stream, Lion Rock, Huoyun Cave, and South Snake Cave, as well as rare trees and bamboo such as the Yellow Dragon Pine, Immortal Crane Pine, and Golden Silk Bamboo.
