The Nianshan Cloud Terrace Fields Scenic Area (a national AAA-level tourist attraction) is situated in Nianshan Village, Xingxi Township, Zhenghe County, Nanping City. The village is honored as one of China’s Beautiful Leisure Villages (Historic Village), a National Eco-Cultural Village, a National Wetland Park (Pilot), one of the first 100 Famous Tourist Villages in Fujian Province, a Fujian Provincial Water Conservancy Scenic Area, and also serves as a key highlight of the national scenic area — Zhenghe Fozishan Scenic Area. The scenic area lies about 10 kilometers from the county seat, encompasses eight natural villages, and covers an area of approximately 13,000 mu. It is a comprehensive tourism resort themed around terrace field leisure, integrating rural experiences, summer retreats, wellness vacations, outdoor adventures, and educational study tours.

Legend has it that in the fifth year of the Qianfu era during the Tang Dynasty (878 AD), the rebel army led by Huang Chao used this area as a base for camping and military training. To commemorate the rebel general Huang Chao, later generations named the place Huang Nianshan, which was later shortened to Nianshan. Through generations of cultivation, the terraced fields were carved out of the mountainside, resulting in the breathtaking Nianshan Terrace Fields — a symbol of the wisdom of ancient Chinese laborers and a perfect embodiment of traditional Chinese culture that respects, utilizes, and harmonizes with nature. Spanning over 1,600 acres, these undulating and winding terraces blend seamlessly into the mountain mists and shift majestically against the blue sky and white clouds, presenting a spectacular sight.

The Nianshan Cloud Terrace Fields Scenic Area is mainly divided into “One Core, One Belt, and Six Zones,” namely the Comprehensive Visitor Service Center, the Riverside Drifting Belt, and six functional zones: the Terrace Viewing and Photography Zone, Riverside Wellness Resort Zone, Bamboo Forest Leisure and Entertainment Zone, Farming Culture Exhibition Zone, Ecological Agriculture Experience Zone, and Ecological Conservation Protection Zone. Major attractions include the Nianshan Terraces, Nianshan First Bend, Ancient Tree Grove, Longfu Temple, Huang Chao Terrace Site, Rentai Pavilion, Happy Farm, Nianshan Homestays, Bamboo Corridor, and Nianshan Farmhouse Dining.

Nianshan Village: Located in the eastern part of Zhenghe, Nianshan Village is 11 kilometers from the county seat, with the highest elevation at 760 meters. It administers eight natural villages — Dongtun, Chentun, Houmenchang, Yutun, Cuojiao, Houshanzi, Shangyuanzi, and Beixin — and eight production teams, with a population of 1,157 people across 287 households. The Nianshan Village Party Branch currently has 28 official members, including 3 female members and 4 members who are stationed away for extended periods.
