Boshan Cave is located at Xiaboshan in Shushan Town, southwestern Wuwei, 38 kilometers from the county seat. Situated at the junction of Wuwei, Lujiang, and Chaohu, with the Jun'er Highway running across the mountain, the area enjoys very convenient transportation.

Boshan Cave is an ancient limestone karst cave formed hundreds of millions of years ago, boasting spectacular and miraculous scenery, and is hailed by people as the “Foremost Wonder of the Jianghuai Region.” The total area of the cave is about 4,000 square meters, with a tour route of over 500 meters and three levels in total. It is divided into 18 major scenic areas and 86 individual spots. The cave passages undulate with varying heights, twists and turns, sometimes narrow and rugged, sometimes grand and spacious. The stalactites inside take on a myriad of exquisite and translucent forms—some resembling human figures or Buddha statues, others like birds, beasts, or other shapes. There are caves within the cave, as well as mountains and waters. The cave maintains a spring-like temperature all year round, cool in summer and warm in winter. Visitors can admire famous sights such as the Great Buddha of Boshan Cave, Dragon King’s Palace, Heavenly Palace, Huanggu Getting Married, Crocodile Drinking Water, Immortals Celebrating Longevity, and Boshan Dragon Pool. Particularly noteworthy are the cave’s stone branches, stone flags, stone flowers, and stone goose tubes, which are exquisitely beautiful.

According to Xu Xiake’s Travel Diaries, Boshan was named after its location by Bahu Lake, where boats often stopped, hence the name Xiaboshan (Lower Boshan). The cave is divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, covering a total area of 4,000 square meters with a depth of over 500 meters. The cave passages feature varying heights, twists and turns, and shifting scenes—from narrow and rugged to grand and spacious. There are 18 scenic areas and 86 individual spots. The stalactites inside are fantastically shaped, resembling jade Buddhas, dragons, lions, tigers, turtles, and fish. The stone flowers and branches are pure white and beautiful, while the stone pillars and flags are crystal clear, making them truly marvelous. The stone formation “Huanggu Getting Married” adds extra charm to this crystal palace. Legend has it that Huanggu was the niece of Huang Chao, both literarily and martially gifted. She once led troops to set up camp here and held her wedding with her military advisor Li Junru in the cave. Faint inscriptions of “Double Happiness” and “Longevity” can be seen on the cave walls. The rose flowers and cosmetics on the dressing table were gifts from the female soldiers to celebrate the wedding, and a longevity turtle in the bridal chamber appears to offer its congratulations. Coincidentally, the Cigu Temple on the mountain outside the cave is said to have been built in memory of Huang Chao’s niece, Huanggu, attracting continuous streams of worshippers amid incense smoke. This is also the origin of the name Huanggu Town in Wuwei, west of the cave. In 1996, a “Boshan Temple” was newly built beside the cave.

Shushan Town: Located in the southwest of Wuwei County, Shushan Town borders Yangliu Township of Lujiang County and is separated from Baihu Farm by a river. It is known as the “Western Gateway” of Wuwei. The Jun'er Highway runs through the town, intersecting with the Shi (Jian)–He (Mao) Road to form a cross-shaped road network, ensuring convenient transportation.

The area covers 52 square kilometers with a total population of 33,000 and arable land of 31,500 mu. It currently governs 13 village committees and one street community neighborhood committee.
