Hangxi Site

The Hangxi Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

The Hangxi Site is located in Wuwei County, Wuhu City, dating back to the Neolithic Age.

It is situated at the intersection of 31°12'33.7"N latitude and 117°52'59.8"E longitude, with Fangjia Village 400 meters to the south, Zhaojiashan Mountain 600 meters to the west, and the Xi River about 200 meters to the east. The existing site comprises Mound No. 1 in the west, Mounds No. 2 and 3 arranged from south to north in the east, as well as low fields, gullies, and depressions surrounding the site. Among them, Mound No. 1 rises about 10–12 meters above the surrounding ground, while Mounds No. 2 and 3 are around 10 meters high. The site stretches approximately 800 meters from north to south and 500 meters from east to west, covering a total area of about 40,000 square meters.

The Hangxi Shendun Site is a newly discovered ancient site during the Third National Cultural Relics Survey (2008–2012). Mound No. 1 has suffered some damage due to earth removal for farmland improvement, but its overall preservation condition is relatively good. Mounds No. 2 and 3 have been severely damaged by earth excavation for local villagers’ housing construction. A collection of Neolithic artifacts, mainly stone and jade tools, was found at a depth of 1–2 meters in Mound No. 2. According to the villagers who built the houses, a small number of bronze artifacts have also been unearthed in recent years. Based on physical evidence, the county cultural relics management department conducted professional research on stone axes, stone yue (battle-axes), jade earrings, and jade huang (arc-shaped pendants), concluding that they are artifacts from the Neolithic Age, dating back approximately 4,000 years.

In 2012, the Hangxi Site was designated as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People’s Government of Anhui Province.

Protected Area: 1 meter beyond the base line of each mound in the east, south, west, and north directions.

Construction Control Zone: 10 meters beyond the protected area on all sides.

Hongqiao Community: Hongqiao Community is located in the southeast of Shilidun Township, bordering the Xi River to the east and facing Yao’gou Town of Nicha Town across the river. It neighbors Xiang’an Town, with the Wuli River to the north. The community covers a total area of 27.2 square kilometers, including 6,596.8 mu of arable land and 1,509 mu of water surface. It currently has a population of 10,808 residents, comprising 39 natural villages and 156 villager groups. It was formed in May 2006 through the adjustment of village administrative divisions, merging the former Hongqiao, Cishan, Zhangda, Shenqiao villages, and Hongqiao Street.
