The brick carvings on the archways of Taiji Lake Village are considered the finest in Huizhou. Each carving is a rare treasure, exuding a romantic beauty with its wonderfully distorted forms. There is a large number of carvings covering extensive areas — as many as 20 in total, with the largest decorative piece spanning up to 4.2 square meters. The archway designs are rich and varied, including scroll-style, watchtower-style, and pendant-column styles. The carving techniques are highly skilled, creating strong three-dimensional effects and rich textures that represent the pinnacle of the craft. The carving content is diverse, with vivid imagery, well-balanced compositions, and prominent themes. The brick-carved archways of Lake Village span over 300 years and serve as extremely valuable historical and cultural resources. Therefore, Taiji Lake Village is also honored as the “No. 1 Village of Chinese Archways.”
