The Ancient Residential Complex of Xishan is located on the southern side of the peak of Xishan Mountain in the county town. It represents some of the finest examples of Hui-style architecture from the Qing Dynasty, including residences No. 18, 19, 22, 43, and 44. The residence of Zhang Hengben is situated at No. 43 on Xishan. It spans three bays in width and five bays in depth, covering an area of 194 square meters. It features a flush gable roof, horse-head walls, and a combination of raised-beam and through-tenon construction. The layout follows an upper and lower hall configuration, with exquisitely carved lattice windows, diagonal supports, and spandrels inside. This was the official residence of Zhang Daogui, the Qing Dynasty Salt Transport Commissioner. The residence of Zhang Hongbai is located at No. 18 on Xishan, facing east. It spans three bays in width and seven bays in depth, covering an area of 380 square meters. It also has a flush gable roof, enclosed firewalls all around, and combines raised-beam and through-tenon construction, with a rammed earth floor. The residence of Zhang Zhiyong is at No. 44 on Xishan, also facing east. It spans three bays in width and three bays in depth, with an area of 105 square meters. It has a flush gable roof, enclosed firewalls, combined raised-beam and through-tenon construction, and a rammed earth floor. The residence of Cheng Yuting is at No. 19 on Xishan, facing south. It spans three bays in width and five bays in depth, covering 190 square meters. This residence also has an upper and lower hall layout, with a central courtyard. The front hall features an arched ceiling, while the rear hall is the main reception room. There are upper and lower floors, east and west wing rooms, and the upper levels of the corridor rooms on both sides of the courtyard are adorned with intricately carved openwork designs of meander and lattice patterns. The spandrels and diagonal supports inside are also finely carved. In 2000, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site. In 2016, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural heritage site under approval document Xu Zheng Mi [2016] No. 219. In 2019, it was proclaimed as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Anhui Province.
