Nanshan Bridge

Nanshan Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Xuancheng City.

Nanshan Bridge is located at the entrance of Shijia Village, Shangzhuang Town, to the east of Kuixing Pavilion. Built during the Qing Dynasty, it faces from southeast to northwest and covers an area of 52 square meters. Shijia Village is a provincial-level historical and cultural village, home to the Shijia Village Ancient Architectural Complex, a key provincial cultural relic protection unit, which is connected to the Kuixing Pavilion, a county-level cultural relic protection unit. The bridge is a three-arch stone structure built with local granite, featuring a flat slab pavement of bluestone. Peach Blossom Stream flows beneath it. According to the Jixi County Annals from the Qianlong era, “Nanshan Bridge was destroyed by floods in the 18th year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign (1679) and was later rebuilt by a local resident named Shi Rubi. In the 49th year of Kangxi’s reign (1710), Shi Lianming erected a stele behind the corridor of the Shi Family Ancestral Hall, leaning against the corridor.” In 1983, during the reconstruction of Kuixing Pavilion, the stele was moved to beside the pavilion. The stele is 1.55 meters tall and 0.8 meters wide but is heavily weathered, making the inscriptions unclear. The stone bridge remains well-preserved and holds certain cultural and historical value. In June 2011, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit under approval number Jizheng [2011] No. 46. In 2016, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit under approval number Xuanzheng Mi [2016] No. 219. In 2019, it was announced as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People's Government of Anhui Province.
