Chen Village Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural relic protection unit of Xuancheng City.

Chen Village Martyrs' Cemetery

It is situated near Lingtou in Chen Village, Banqiao Township, Jixi County. In November 1947, the Kuomintang assembled over 5,000 troops to launch an offensive against the Jixi Lubei revolutionary base. Tang Hui, commander of the Wanbei-Jiangnan Detachment, led around 400 soldiers to attack a puppet army stronghold in Shuma. While marching through Chen Village, they clashed with enemy forces. After eight hours of intense combat, they routed the enemy, killing over 100, and secured a hard-fought victory. During the battle, 13 soldiers from our side, including Gan Guozhong and Xiaolin, sacrificed their lives heroically. In 1964, the local government built a martyrs' cemetery at the site of the battle. The gravestone bears an inscription of 43 characters: “Eternal glory to the martyrs who valiantly fell in the Chen Village battle during the early winter of 1947 while fighting against reactionaries alongside our Wanbei-Jiangnan guerrilla forces.” In 1977, relevant authorities constructed a “Martyrs’ Memorial Pavilion” in front of the cemetery and erected a monument detailing the Chen Village battle and the heroic deeds of the martyrs, making it an important patriotic education site in the county. In 1982, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit. In 2017, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit, approved under document No. Xuanshi Mi [2017] 45.
