Wenchang Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Xuancheng City.

Wenchang Hall

Located on the west side of the northern end of Shilu in Huayang Town, Jixi County, it covers an area of 193 square meters. Wenchang Hall is a place dedicated to the worship of the Wenchang Emperor. The existing Wenchang Hall is a building from the Qianlong–Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, comprising a front hall, a courtyard, two side corridors, and a rear hall. The hall faces south with a north orientation, has a brick-and-timber structure, and features a flush-gable roof with horse-head walls sealing the gables. The wooden structures have minimal carvings. A brick gate tower faces south, with the three characters “Wenchang Hall” inscribed on its decorative panel. The entrance hall is five bays wide and one bay deep, the side corridors are each three bays wide and one bay deep, with single-slope roofs. The rear hall is three bays wide and three bays deep. A total of four stone tablets are embedded in the west corridor wall and the western section of the north eaves wall of the rear hall. Wenchang Hall and its stone tablets have played a significant role in the study of Jixi’s history. In 1997, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit. In 2017, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit under approval document No. Xuanshi Mi [2017] 45.

Huayang Town: Huayang Town is an ancient town with a history of two thousand years and currently serves as the seat of the Jixi County government. It is the political, economic, and cultural center of the entire county. The town administers five community residential committees and four village committees, covering an area of 83 square kilometers with a population of 43,000. It has 490 hectares of arable land, including 337 hectares of paddy fields.
