The Hujiacun Site

The Hujiacun Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

A provincial-level cultural heritage site, located in Zhuangtuan Village, Chang’an Town, Jixi County, covering an area of approximately 5,000 square meters. In 1951, multiple artifacts including pottery shards with impressed designs and polished stone tools were discovered here, leading to the designation of the site as the Hujiacun Site. It represents the first discovery of Neolithic human cultural remains in southern Anhui and has provided significant guidance for subsequent archaeological findings in the Jiangnan region. The cultural layer at this site is 1–2 meters thick and contains polished stone tools and pottery shards. The stone tools mainly include perforated stone axes, arrowheads, chisels, awls, adzes, and knives, all finely crafted and well-polished. The pottery shards are primarily impressed ware, in grey and red, featuring decorative patterns such as mat impressions, meanders, geometric motifs, wave patterns, basket weaves, and thunder patterns. The clay is relatively coarse, with high firing temperatures and uneven thickness. Common artifact types include tripods, pots, and spinning whorls. Polished stone tools have also been unearthed in nearby locations such as Shanzhashan, Tantou, and Rui Chuan, confirming that this area saw considerable human activity and cultural development during the Neolithic period. In 1961, it was listed as one of the first batch of provincial-level protected sites.

Protected Area: A zone with the center of the site as the reference point, extending 25 meters east and west, and 50 meters north and south.

The construction control zone is the same as the protected area. The approval document number for the protected area is Anhui Cultural Relics (1992) No. 049.

Zhuangtuan Village: Zhuangtuan Village is located in the western part of Chang’an Town, bordering Shangzhuang Town. A town road runs through the village, making it a necessary passageway to Shangzhuang. It was formed in 2005 through the merger of the former Zhuangchuan Village and Zhongtuan Village, and currently has a population of over 2,500, comprising 9 villager groups.

Villagers in the area are relatively well-off, with their main sources of income coming from farming, animal husbandry, and the construction industry. Key agricultural products include silkworm cocoons and fresh vegetables. In recent years, a large number of successful farmers and breeders have emerged, setting examples and effectively boosting the local agricultural and rural economic development.
