Zhongzheng Square

Zhongzheng Square is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

A provincial-level cultural heritage site, located at No. 58 West Street, Huayang Town, with a total area of 12.28 square meters. It is a building dating from the Ming Dynasty to the Republican era. Commonly known as "Simen Chuan," historical records such as the Huizhou Prefecture Records and the Jixi County Records state that when the county seat was established during the Song Dynasty, this location was determined to be the central point, and this pavilion was built. The four gateways of the existing Simen Chuan exhibit features characteristic of the Ming Dynasty, while the wooden structure and roof are from the Republican period. Zhongzheng Square has a square floor plan, with two levels above ground. Its four gateways are built with brick arches, standing 2.84 meters high, with stone-paved pathways. The eaves to the north and south rise 6.77 meters high. The roof is covered with clay tiles and small rectangular tiles, featuring a flush gable roof style. The wooden structure is simple; the four sides all have lattice windows under the eaves without any carvings, presenting a plain and elegant appearance. On the wall plaques facing east, west, and north, the three characters “中正坊” (Zhongzheng Square) are inscribed in clerical-style regular script with ink, while on the plaques facing the other two directions, ink inscriptions detail the history and renovations of the square. This site serves as an important resource for studying the history of Jixi County. In 1997, it was designated as a key cultural heritage site at the county level, under approval document Jizheng [1997] No. 35. In June 2012, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural heritage site, under approval document Wanzhi Mi (2012) No. 300.
