The Kesou Memorial Archway in Kantou

The Kesou Memorial Archway in Kantou is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

A provincial-level cultural heritage site, located in Kantou Village, Jia Peng Township, it was built in the 17th year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1537). The archway faces southeast to northwest, featuring four pillars, three gates, and five stories, constructed in a stone imitation wood structure. It stands 8 meters tall, 8.4 meters wide, and 2.45 meters deep, covering an area of 20 square meters. The archway was erected to honor Madam Zhang, the widow of the late Xu Bao. The central plaque on the main story bears the inscription “Imperial Favor,” while the lower floral panel on the northwest side is engraved with the three characters “Kesou Archway” (Archway of the Chaste Widow). The structure exhibits high artistic and carving quality with distinct Ming Dynasty characteristics, making it an important representation of Ming-era memorial archways. In April 1997, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site. In June 2012, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural heritage site under approval document Wan Zheng Mi (2012) No. 300.
