Located at No. 10 Liangan Road, Huayang Town, it is a brick-and-wood structure building from the early Republican era, completed in 1917. The entire house features a blend of Chinese and Western styles, consisting of a gatehouse, courtyard, main hall, kitchen, study, and vegetable garden. The main structure, the main hall, is a two-story, three-bay, connected building with front and rear sections. A corridor is built in front of the building, supported by wooden pillars. The courtyard was converted into a simple enclosed one in the 1980s. The entire building has largely retained its original appearance, with a simple and elegant structure. It is one of the more intact and culturally rich residential buildings among the county-level cultural relic protection units.

Hu Jinjie was a descendant of the “Three Hus of Rites Learning” from the Qing Dynasty. He was an educator during the Republican period, a pioneer of modern education in Huizhou, and one of the trailblazers of modern secondary normal education in Anhui Province. Both during his life and after his death, he received praise and acclaim from notable figures of the time such as Liang Qichao, Huang Yanpei, Zhang Shizhao, and Hu Shi, and was even more deeply respected and remembered by his students and later generations. The property rights of the house belong to Hu Jinjie’s sons Hu Yimou, Hu Guangfan, and Hu Guangdu, among others. Having stood for a century, it serves as an important resource for studying him and his educational philosophy.

Hu Jinjie, courtesy name Zicheng, art name Meixuan, and later art name Zhicheng, was a native of Jixi, Anhui. He was a scholar and educator with significant influence in modern Huizhou. In 1874, he began studying at Dongshan Academy with his father. In 1883, he passed the imperial examination of the Jiashen year during the reign of Emperor Guangxu, was admitted to the prefectural school, soon received a government stipend, and was recommended as a tribute student. Well-read in the classics and history, he became a learned scholar. In 1891, he taught at the Wang family private school in the southern part of Jixi County, and later taught at a private school in Zhexi. During this time, he repeatedly sought to establish new-style primary schools to realize his ambitions but unfortunately lacked the funds to do so.
