Sima Ancestral Hall

Located in Wang Village, Yingzhou Town. Wang Shujv, the founding ancestor of the Wang clan from Dengyuan, Jixi, served as Sima (a government official) during the Qi Dynasty’s Emperor Ming’s reign, and was hence posthumously referred to as “Qi Sima.” To commemorate him, his descendants built the Sima Ancestral Hall at the entrance of Wang Village in Dayue, Yingzhou Town, Jixi County. The hall faces south and was constructed during the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of 245 square meters. It has a high foundation, a single-entry layout with four bays, featuring a symmetrical front-and-back hall structure with a central courtyard, and a rammed-earth floor. Steps on the east and west sides lead up to the rear hall. The entire timber frame is made of gingko wood, and the wooden components are intricately carved with figures from operatic tales and lotus motifs. The main gate is built with blue bricks, and the gate tower is inscribed with the characters “Sima Ancestral Hall.” Historical records indicate that the Sima Ancestral Hall was originally built during the Sui and Tang dynasties, and has been repaired through successive dynasties. The currently preserved structure dates back to the mid-Qing Dynasty. The building remains intact and holds significant cultural heritage value.

The Longchuan Hu Clan Ancestral Hall, a national key cultural relics protection unit known as the “Hall of Woodcarving Art” and the “No.1 Ancestral Hall in the South of the Yangtze River,” is situated in Longchuan Village within this township. In recent years, Yingzhou Township has established a development path focused on building an “Ecological Township” and set the goal of becoming a nationally recognized environmentally beautiful township, placing great emphasis on the protection and rational, orderly development of ecological resources. Currently, the township has a forest coverage rate of 79.5%, with public welfare forest area totaling 35,012 mu, afforestation on barren hills covering 1,575 mu, and air quality reaching Class I standards.
