The Ancient Architectural Complex of Kaoxi is a cultural heritage site protected by Jixi County.

The Ancient Architectural Complex of Kaoxi (including the South Road Pavilion of Kaoxi Village, the Residence of Wang Guixiang, and the Residence of Hu Tianxiang)

Located in Kaoxi Village, Banqiaotou Township, among them, the South Road Pavilion of Kaoxi Village and the residences of Wang Guixiang and Hu Tianxiang are relatively well-preserved and hold significant value for the study of Kaoxi’s revolutionary history.

The South Road Pavilion of Kaoxi Village is located at the end of Kaoxi Village, facing south with an east-west orientation, featuring white walls and black tiles, a gable and hip roof, and is a single-room structure covering an area of 22 square meters. Built in the late Qing Dynasty, it underwent comprehensive renovation in 2015 and is currently well-preserved with high historical value. In 1933, after the failure of the Red Army's fifth anti-encirclement campaign, the main forces strategically retreated, leaving behind key Party members to continue developing underground organizations in southern Anhui. Shu Mengxiong came to the Kaoxi area to carry out revolutionary work, and the South Road Pavilion served as a secret liaison point where underground comrades received and transmitted revolutionary intelligence.

The Residence of Wang Guixiang is located in the center of Kaoxi Village, facing south, and is a two-story, three-bay single-entry building with a floor height of 2 meters, featuring a flush gable roof and a rammed earth floor. It was built in the late Qing Dynasty and is currently in fair condition. Situated in the middle of the village, it faces south, has a three-bay single-entry layout, two floors, a flush gable roof, a rammed earth floor, and a gate adorned with four decorative flying bricks in a simple and traditional style. The building lacks carved ornamentation, covers an area of 102 square meters, was built in the late Qing Dynasty, and is now in poor condition. During the Liberation War, the residence was used to store military provisions. Wang Guixiang contributed to the revolution by delivering intelligence and transporting food supplies to the troops. After the founding of the People’s Republic, she was posthumously honored as a veteran supporter of the revolution.

The Residence of Hu Tianxiang is located in the center of Kaoxi Village, facing south, and is a two-story, three-bay single-entry building with a floor height of 2 meters, featuring a flush gable roof and a rammed earth floor. It was built in the late Qing Dynasty and is currently in fair condition. Hu Tianxiang and her husband, Wu Kaifa, secretly joined the Chinese Communist Party during the revolutionary war years, helped develop underground Party organizations, and made contributions to the logistical support of the New Fourth Army guerrillas and the liberation cause. Wu Kaifa died a martyr’s death in 1944, and the East China Military Region of the People’s Liberation Army issued a certificate of revolutionary martyr’s family for his relatives. After the founding of the People’s Republic, Hu Tianxiang and her husband were posthumously honored as veteran supporters of the revolution.

Banqiaotou Township: Banqiaotou Township is located at the northernmost tip of Jixi County, Xuancheng City, Anhui Province, approximately 21 kilometers from the county seat. It borders Jinsha and Yangxi Towns to the east, Chang’an and Huayang Towns to the south, Ningguo County at its northeastern corner, and both its northwest and southwest sides border Jingde County.
