The Fang Clan Ancestral Hall of Xiangchuan

The Fang Clan Ancestral Hall of Xiangchuan is a protected cultural heritage site of Anhui Province.

The Fang Clan Ancestral Hall of Xiangchuan is located in Xiangchuan Village, Xiangchuan Town, Yuexi County, Anqing City, Anhui Province.

Constructed in the ninth year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1670), this family ancestral hall was used for worshipping ancestors and honored individuals. It faces south with three courtyards and two skywells. The first section is the entrance gate, three bays wide, with the main door located halfway along the depth of the central bay, forming a layout with a front porch and rear hallway. The back of the gate’s second floor houses a stage, facing the central hall. It features a single-eave hip-and-gable roof, low railings at the stage opening, and is open on three sides, with viewing galleries on both sides. The second section is the central hall, three bays wide, with a five-rafter raised-beam structure featuring a front porch and double steps at the rear. The third section is the shrine hall, also three bays wide, with one side chamber on each side. The left wing room has been destroyed, but the right one remains. Adjacent to the ancestral hall is a genealogy archive building, situated opposite the main hall and constructed around the same time. It consists of a two-story, four-courtyard complex with two sections.

Protected area: 12 meters east of the eaves drip line, 8 meters south of the back wall and earthen ridge, 5 meters west of the National Highway near the Character-Respecting Pavilion, and 15 meters north of the river.

Construction control zone: Outside the protected area — 90 meters east to Shangjie Bridge, south to the sidewalk beyond the protected area, 5 meters west of the Character-Respecting Pavilion, and the same as the protected area to the north.

Xiangchuan Village: Located in the central area of Xiangchuan Town, Xiangchuan Village administers 35 villager groups, with 1,013 households, covering a total area of 8.77 square kilometers (including 5,992 mu of mountain land, 2,794 mu of paddy fields, and 913 mu of dry land). The village office faces the town government across the river, making it the political, economic, and cultural center of Xiangchuan. The area enjoys convenient transportation and access to information. Three village-level cement roads stretch a total of 18.5 kilometers. There is also a small Type II irrigation reservoir with a water surface area of 4.5 mu. Three small rivers flow east-west into the Xiangchuan River. The village has 129 commercial shops and six privately-owned processing enterprises.
