China Grand Canal Museum

The China Grand Canal Museum, located on the south side of the Canal Culture Square in Gongshu District, Hangzhou, is adjacent to Gongchen Bridge, the southern terminus landmark of the Grand Canal. With an investment of over 100 million RMB, the museum has a total construction area of more than 10,000 square meters and an exhibition area of over 5,000 square meters. It is divided into a lobby and four exhibition halls: “The Excavation and Evolution of the Grand Canal,” “The Utilization of the Grand Canal,” “Cities Along the Canal,” and “Canal Culture.” The currently collected and displayed thousands of cultural relics and historical materials fully demonstrate the status and role of the Grand Canal in the development history of the Chinese nation. The canal-themed landscape series, focusing on “one museum, two belts, two squares, three gardens, six docks, and fifteen bridges,” officially opened on October 1, 2006. A former leader of the Communist Party of China inscribed the museum’s name.
