The Princess Gulun Mansion
The Princess Gulun Mansion was originally located in Dongcheng District. In the eighth year of the Tongzhi reign, it was converted into the residence of Princess Rong’an, the daughter of Emperor Xianfeng, and later bestowed upon Princess Rongshou. Since Princess Rongshou was the eldest daughter of Prince Gong, it became known as the “Princess Gulun Mansion.” But why was the eldest daughter of Prince Gong not called a “junzhu” (noblewoman), but rather a “gongzhu” (princess)? Because Empress Dowager Cixi held this daughter of Prince Gong in high regard and adopted her as her foster daughter, she naturally became a “princess.” In 1985, the Princess Gulun Mansion was relocated to Baihe Country Park in Miyun County, consisting of five courtyards: the entrance hall, the main hall, the bedroom gate, the bedroom hall, and the rear enclosing building.
