Zhong Jiefu Pharmacy
Zhong Jiefu Pharmacy is located at No. 11 Tangdong Street, Xitang Town. It was founded in the 11th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1885) by Zhong Daosun, a local resident. Zhong had studied under the renowned physician Ma Peilan from Gusu and was highly skilled in surgery as well as internal medicine. For over 100 years, Zhong Jiefu Pharmacy has earned the trust of the community and enjoyed lasting prosperity. In addition to producing refined traditional Chinese patent medicines, it is also known for its famous product — Ba Zhen Cake, which integrates medicinal and medical principles into a pastry. The pharmacy faces west and was originally a three-courtyard structure, though only two remain today. These are two-story buildings with flush gable roofs. The first courtyard has been demolished; the second courtyard is three bays wide, with a total width of 10.5 meters and a depth of 9 meters; the third courtyard is also three bays wide, with a total width of 10 meters and a depth of 7.8 meters. The second and third courtyards serve as warehouses for traditional Chinese medicine, and the corridor to their south functions as the herbal decoction area. Adjacent to the third courtyard is a two-story Western-style small building made of brick-concrete structure, used as a herbal slicing and processing workshop. This entire structure faces south and is three bays wide, with a total width of 17.6 meters and a depth of 6.6 meters. It has a flat roof that doubles as a drying terrace for herbs. In January 2004, it was listed as a county-level cultural relics protection unit.
