Jiashan Dongyue Temple
Jiashan Dongyue Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.
Dongyue Temple is located at the eastern end of Shaogang Port North, now within Fenghuang Village. During the Song Dynasty, it was originally the foundation site of the Eastern Observatory belonging to brothers Tang Jiefu and Tang Jieshou. In 1515 (the 10th year of the Zhengde era in the Ming Dynasty), county magistrate Ni Ji built the temple hall to worship the Eight Deities of Harvest, hence it was renamed “Balah Ci” (Eight Deities Temple), though its original name was later restored. It was rebuilt in the 13th year of the Republic of China.
After reconstruction, the temple became grand in scale. It has three courtyards front to back, with corridors on both sides of the courtyard. The main gate is spacious, with tall door gods statues, and the entrance leads to a stage facing north. The main hall appears as a single-eave gable and hip roof from the front and a flush-gable roof from the rear. The temple also enshrines the City God. On the 29th day of the third lunar month each year, a god-welcoming festival is held. Locals parade the City God through the town, and the next day theatrical performances are held to entertain the deity and pray for a bountiful harvest.
Walk back along the north bank of the river until you pass Wufu Bridge, and you’ll reach the Holy Hall.

Xitang Town: Xitang, anciently known as Xietang. Legend has it that during the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu Zixu stationed troops here and dug the Wu Family Pond to boost water conservancy, diverting water from Xushan directly into the area, hence it was also called Xutang. Xitang Town is located in the northern part of Jiashan County, at the junction of Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces, enjoying a prime geographical position and is known as the “Corner of Wu and Yue.” It lies 90 km east of Shanghai, 110 km west of Hangzhou, 85 km north of Suzhou, and 9 km south of Jiashan County seat. The central urban area is situated at 120°53′ east longitude and 30°56′ north latitude. With both land and water… More detailed information about Xitang Town ++
