Tomb Pond Lane
Legend has it that this place was originally the graveyard of a man named Lu Bang from the Ming Dynasty, covering dozens of acres, hence the name Tomb Pond Lane. The lane was originally 107 meters long and 5 meters wide, but now it stretches 209 meters in length and 1–7 meters in width. In 1982, the dirt road was paved with cement. Today, the lane is lined with residential and staff housing, home to hundreds of families. Tomb Pond Lane connects to Wufu Bridge in the east, Lujia Bridge in the west, and Nantang Bridge to the south, making up a fairly sizable area.
Around Lu Bang’s grave, small streams were dug, with two bridges built over them. One is called Wen’an Bridge and the other Jinyin Bridge. Stone archways, stone lions, stone turtles, and a stone tablet recording Lu Bang’s life were also erected around the tomb.
Tomb Pond Lane is located south of Shaogang in Xitang Town. The most famous attraction in the lane is undoubtedly the pair of Lu Tomb Ginkgo trees. There are two famous Lu Tomb Ginkgo trees in the lane, one male and one female, planted during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, over 600 years ago.
This area was once part of the graveyard of the imperial censor Lu Bang. One tree was planted northeast of Lu Bang’s grandfather’s tomb, and the other southwest near the water, hence the name “Lu Tomb Ginkgo.”

Xitang Town: Xitang, anciently known as Xietang, became a market town during the Ming Dynasty, straddling Yong’an and Qianshan counties. Initially named Xietang, it later became known as Xitang. Legend has it that during the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu Zixu stationed troops here and dug the Wu Family Pond to improve water management, diverting water from Xushan Mountain directly into the area, hence it was also called Xutang. Xitang Town is located in the northern part of Jiashan County, at the junction of three provinces—Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Jiangsu—and enjoys a prime geographical location, often referred to as the "Corner of Wu and Yue." It lies 90 km east of Shanghai, 110 km west of Hangzhou, 85 km north of Suzhou, and 9 km south of Jiashan County. The town center is situated at 120°53′ east longitude and 30°56′ north latitude.
