Introduction
The Legend of the Five Girls
A true love story has been passed down in Xitang. During the late Qing Dynasty, the daughter of the Yang family landlord in Tangdong Village, known as the Five Girls, fell in love with Xu Atian, a farm laborer. Their love was opposed by her half-brother from a different mother, which led to her tragic death. Later, their love story was turned into a field song and sung here for over a hundred years. The musical "Five Girls," adapted from Jiashan field songs, won the Wenhua Grand Prize at the 7th China Art Festival.
The Single-Tile Pavilion was built by Xu Atian when he worked as a pottery worker. To express his unique love for the Five Girls, he specially fired a single tile to construct the pavilion. Inside the pavilion hangs a bell engraved with the scene of their secret meeting and the phrase "love at first sight."

Legend has it that during the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu Zixu stationed troops here and dug the Wu Family Pond to improve irrigation, diverting water from Xushan directly into the area—hence it was also called Xutang. Xitang Town is located in the northern part of Jiashan County, at the junction of Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang, enjoying a strategically superior location known as the "Corner of Wu and Yue." It is 90 km east of Shanghai, 110 km west of Hangzhou, 85 km north of Suzhou, and 9 km south of Jiashan County. The central coordinates are 120°53′ east longitude and 30°56′ north latitude.
