Xitang Songzi Laifeng Bridge
The Laifeng Bridge in Xitang is located on the east side of Xiaotong Street. Built in 1637 (the 10th year of the Chongzhen era during the Ming Dynasty), it is a three-arch stone slab bridge. Legend has it that during its construction, a bird flew by, which the builders took as an auspicious sign. They thus named the bridge “Songzi Laifeng Bridge,” meaning “Bridge Where a Phoenix Brings Children.” It was renovated in the 48th year of the Kangxi era (1669) and the 15th year of the Daoguang era (1835) during the Qing Dynasty.
The Laifeng Bridge was rebuilt in 1997. Its distinctive design and structure make it a great spot for sightseeing, and it has become one of the new attractions. The bridge is 10 meters wide, with a decorative wall in the center separating pedestrians onto either side — locals commonly call it the “Sunny and Rainy Bridge.” The bridge roof features a covered walkway with red eaves and dark tiles, giving it a classic yet fresh look. There are railings along both sides, as well as long benches paved with square bricks where visitors can rest and enjoy the views of the river.

Xitang Town: Xitang, anciently known as Xietang, became a market town during the Ming Dynasty. It was originally named Xietang after bordering Yong’an and Qianshan counties, and later renamed Xitang. Legend says that during the Spring and Autumn period, Wu Zixu stationed troops here and dug the Wu Family Pond to improve water conservancy, diverting water from Xushan Mountain directly to the area, hence it is also called Xutang. Xitang Town is situated in the northern part of Jiashan County, at the junction of Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces, enjoying a prime geographical location known as the “Corner of Wu and Yue.” It lies 90 km east of Shanghai, 110 km west of Hangzhou, 85 km north of Suzhou, and 9 km south of Jiashan County’s urban area. The central urban area is located at 120°53′ east longitude and 30°56′ north latitude. With access to both land and water… More detailed information about Xitang Town++
