Xitang Christian Church in Jiaxing

The Xitang Christian Church is located in Si Xian Ci Alley within the ancient town. The church faces east and is four bays wide, with a seven-rafter beam structure, and an additional two-rafter beam added to the north side later. The beams are in a “人” (inverted V) shape, and the overall structure is brick and wood, with blue bricks covering the ground.

Previously, this church was called Gospel Church and existed before 1944. It was built as part of a unified construction project, and has undergone continuous maintenance from before then to the present. To the southwest of the church, there is another building with two floors above and two below (featuring five-rafter divided-heart beams), which was originally used as a resting and office space for priests. Now, all the doors and windows have been renovated. The church’s façade was rebuilt after the 1980s. Crossing the East Dai Street, there is a Christian dining hall, facing west, a six-bay single-story building (with one bay used as a wood storage room). Every Sunday, a considerable number of elderly people come here to attend worship services.
