Liuzhong Bridge
Liuzhong Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected at the county level in Jiashan.
Liuzhong Bridge is located on Beixin Street in Taozhuang Community, Taozhuang Town. Dating back to the Song and Qing dynasties, it is classified as an ancient architectural structure.
Originally named Yongqing Bridge and commonly known as Bagua Bridge (Eight-Diagram Bridge). It was recorded in the Jiashan County Annals of the Guangxu era during the Qing Dynasty as having been rebuilt by a local resident named Tao Dayou during the Song Dynasty. In December 1982, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site. The bridge covers an area of 54 square meters and is a single-arch stone bridge oriented from north to south, spanning Liuxi River. It is 20 meters long, with a bridge deck 2.5 meters wide and bridge abutments 2.7 meters wide. The arch rise is 2.9 meters, and the span of the arch is 8.1 meters. The arch ring is constructed using the method of vertical jointing with segmented parallel placement, and the top of the arch ring is inscribed with the three characters “流庆桥” (Liuzhong Bridge). The bridge is flanked by solid balustrades on both sides, and each side of the bridge features a pair of chi-dragon head carvings on the coping stones. There are 12 steps on both the north and south ends. On a bluestone slab on the western side of the southern abutment is engraved: “Reconstructed on the first day of the first lunar month in the 60th year of the Qianlong reign of the Great Qing (1795).”
Most of the bridge body is built with purplish-red sandstone, with some bluestones added during the Qing Dynasty reconstruction. The structure and design of Liuzhong Bridge largely retain the style of the Song Dynasty. With its long history and elegant form, and being the only surviving Song Dynasty bridge in Jiashan, it holds significant historical, scientific, and artistic value.
On September 17, 1982, Liuzhong Bridge was announced as a cultural heritage site protected at the county level in Jiashan.
